The last day of our Roman adventure. And what an adventure it has been! Pyramid of Cestius. We took the metro to meet Luigi, an architect who lives in Rome near Piramide. He was coming with us to Ostia Antica. He told us about this pyramid which looked new against the backdrop of the ancient city.

To strike or not to strike, that was the question (trains, buses and the underground metro). But really, the question was how many hours to strike? At first it was announced as 24 hours, then 12, then 8, and finally this morning before we left the apartment, we were told 4 hours. We planned on

Started our day with a cappuccino and a pastry, like anyone would do when in Italy.   To get to our destination we had to practically take planes, trains, and automobiles. We started on the Rome metro, changed trains and got off the metro in Piramide. Then we got on a train train (not Metro

All weather reports predicted a rain storm today, but we all took our positive attitudes to the beach so we could enjoy one more day.  Antimo conducted an impromptu exercise class with breathing, stretching, a little yoga, a few movements with weights and resistance bands, and voila! It wasn’t as if we didn’t need it

Our hosts for lunch and a cooking class are Damiano and Moira. They live in Alpo, a little town in the area of Villafranca di Verona. They are a most gracious family and welcomed us into their home. Antimo knew Damiano from his Italian army days. Pearà (sort of a bread soup) is a specialty of this

We had absolutely nothing pre-planned for today. After doing a bit of laundry and hanging everything on the line – like they do here in Italy – we decided to head for the sea. Lunch today would be Fruti di Mare (fruit of the sea aka seafood), pesce (fish), or whatever! We were headed to

We are greeted by the most beautiful sunrise this morning. This view is from one of our apartment windows but I wanted to get the picture without the windows and screen. I was so excited to capture the moment I ran out of the apartment in my shorty jammies. Oh well, if any of the

Kissed My Basil Goodbye – Made Pesto!

Kissed My Basil Goodbye – Made Pesto!

I had to face the fact that the basil needed to be pulled out of the garden. The plants were going to seed and some leaves were showing signs of sunburn. Practically in tears (sad to see them go until next spring), I cut off the leaf stems and brought them in the house to make

On this day of the total Eclipse of the Sun it was hard to choose which blog to post. Since we live in the “path of totality” I was trying to think of ways to equate this cooking experience with today’s event. Should we start with a song? “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie

Lazy Summer Days – Broccoli Salad

Lazy Summer Days – Broccoli Salad
Tags: , , , , , ,

As much as I love cooking and creating meals if I had to, I could live on salads in the summer and soups/stews in the winter. So it’s summer, and you guessed it, I made another salad. And for those traditionalists, salad doesn’t have to include “lettuce.”  Last year we grew broccoli in our garden

Zucchini Bread Taste Off – #2

Before we get into Zucchini Bread Recipe #2, I’ve got to talk about the portion size of each slice. Two of the recipes I baked (and others I found on the internet) lists 12 slices to an average sized loaf, and then bases its nutritional statistics on one slice as a portion. Really? If you’ve
