We took off today for parts unknown to Ricardo and I. We had heard about Altamura bread but that’s about it. And didn’t know anything about Matera. What a surprising day we had in store for us! Altamura When we reached the town, we went straight to the bread oven to learn about Altamura bread and

All weather reports predicted a rain storm today, but we all took our positive attitudes to the beach so we could enjoy one more day.  Antimo conducted an impromptu exercise class with breathing, stretching, a little yoga, a few movements with weights and resistance bands, and voila! It wasn’t as if we didn’t need it

We’re off to Ostuni today. I remember a few years ago when we were taking the train from Bari to Brindisi – Antimo told us once we saw the “white” city of Ostuni to get our luggage together because the next stop would be ours. It was a good thing he warned us because

A day at the sea – Porto Cesareo Antimo showed up at our house this morning with breakfast for a king, well maybe for a prince. Ricardo only thinks he’s king – ha ha. The cornettos were as large as the plate and so fresh. Fruit, yogurt, a special breakfast biscotti – I love it!

There was so much to share about this day we had to add another blog. In the afternoon we ventured out to Giuseppe Greco’s property. He is an artist, entrepreneur, and so much more. We were greeted with chilled prosecco when we arrived and beautiful piano music by Narmada and Ludovico Enaudi. I thought I

2015 – Italy Day 8 – The Old

Antimo took us to Oria this morning. What a quaint little town not far from Manduria. It’s a bit hilly but easy enough to walk (says the person with the bad foot). However, some of the streets were so steep the city had to add steps of sorts right into the road. You can see

Sunday in Manduria – well, let’s just say if you’re not going to church, the church makes sure you are awake. At 8:00am they start ringing bells that reverberate throughout the streets. I thought we were IN the bell tower by the volume of the bells. Luckily we get up early so didn’t disturb our

2015 – Italy Day 5 – Alberobello & Trulli houses

Tags: , , , ,

This day was an adventure that could not be planned by any agency, tour company or bumbling tourist. However, Antimo orchestrated a perfect day. We did have a challenge getting to Alberobello because every train crossing we came upon had the guard rails down waiting for a train. We were told that in the olden

2015 – Italy Day 3 – Goodbye Bari – Hello Mandura

Tags: , , , ,

It was raining when we woke up this morning. Ah, that wonderful sound – now I have to remember that in February when I’m looking for sunshine in Oregon. We went in to old town Bari this morning to do some shopping and what we discovered is that everything was closed. I guess people know
